Full-Time Position - 1.0 FTE (8 Positions Available- Based on Funding)

June 28, 2026 - August 14, 2026; Monday - Friday 8:30AM- 4:30PM - 35 Hours/Week

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board invites qualified applicants for a full-time (35 hours/week) Summer Wellness Camp Counsellor position with duties to commence June 28, 2026. The Summer Wellness Camp Counsellor will be responsible for for the planning, design and implementation of a variety of positive daytime recreational “camp” and leadership experiences for school aged children and youth.  The goal of the Summer Wellness Camp is to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and youth. Campers will work on self-esteem, confidence building and positive peer interactions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The successful applicant will be creative, reliable, responsible, and comfortable working within a neighbourhood centre, from a strength-based perspective.
  • Committed to anti-oppressive values of justice, equity, respect of the beliefs and traditions of others.
  • Understanding of Indigenous practices and impact of colonization
  • Committed to including the voice of children/youth and families as part of our service planning and service delivery.
  • Working closely with the Camp Lead, the Camp Counselor will play a leadership role in assisting in the development of exceptional camper experiences, program offerings and strong role modelling relationships to campers.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of the camp program in conjunction with the Camp Lead.
  • Complete staff training and orientation on safety procedures, first aid, CPR.  Actively participate in staff meetings and camp planning and preparation.
  • Ensure program area is maintained and clean on a regular basis.
  • Communicate program needs and concerns to Camp Lead

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a Secondary School program
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to build constructive relationships with children and youth in groups and on an individual basis
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills
  • Demonstrate confidence leading activities and groups.
  • Knowledge of issues that affect children and youth
  • Knowledge of various aspects of child development and outdoor education
  • Knowledge of child protection act
  • Knowledge of anti-discriminatory practice
  • Multilingualism is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills

All successful candidates will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) before starting their first shift.
